The College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (CMNS) officially launched its second Colloquium on May 30, 2025, at the P.E. Academic Building in Labuyo, Tangub City, hosted by Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST). This year’s theme is “Converging Life and Numbers Toward Advancing Scientific Knowledge for Sustainability and Development." The event marked a full day of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and innovation.
The colloquium began with the arrival of the panelists. Three internal panelists—Dr. Eddie P. Mondejar (Associate Professor, MSU-IIT), Prof. Jay Lord P. Omayao, and Asst. Prof. IV Muhmin Michael Manting (both from MSU)—joined external evaluators in leading the academic discussions.
CMNS Dean Dr. Lynde Bulong delivered the opening remarks, welcoming the participants and emphasizing the role of research in shaping a sustainable future. Prof. Steve Embang, Director for Research and Creative works also addressed the audience, underscoring the resilience and innovation required in research with the words: “The most difficult step is the first step.”

Following the keynote, participants proceeded to their respective venues. At the P.E. Academic Building, BS Mathematics students presented oral and poster research outputs exploring subjects like international trade using network analysis and location-allocation modeling through GIS-based network analysis, with external panelist Prof. Jay Lord Omayao and internal panelists Dr. Julie Mar Regis and Ms. Honey Bless Israelee T. Eslabon providing feedback and evaluation.
Milben A. Jumamil and John Earl D. Imperial served as internal panelists and judged each researcher's poster presentation. Prof. Manting, the external panelist, joined internal panelists like Heiden O. Apiag in evaluating entries in the natural products category held at the RIDE Office.
Simultaneously, BS Biology students at VPASS presented their research on biodiversity and terrestrial studies. External panelist Dr. Eddie P. Mondejar and internal panelists Aiko Tabig, Ivan John Sisi, and Dr. Mondejar evaluated the presentations.
The awarding ceremony was held at 4:00 PM at the P.E. Academic Building. Recognition was given to the best oral and poster presentations, along with special awards for CMNS faculty members and LSC officers.
